Not only is @campo a great blogger, passionate intern, champion soccer player, badass coder, but he also is a great friend. And I like following his diggs (1600+).

I worked with Campo at ESPN in 2006. We had fun talking to the ladies, and exploring the campus. He has also made me feel at home at his fraternity in Back Bay, Boston. The first time I had a good burrito was Anna’s Taqueria at MIT. Campo is good at physics.

McCarthy covers important stories too, like Microhoo, old school-looking gadgets, and the economy. Her writing style is fun, but informative. I have no doubt that she will continue to shake things up online.

She bounces from NY to SF and many places in between, carving out her niche in social media. She was recently nominated for the Silicon Alley 100.

What makes Caroliiine a sexy geek? Besides the fact that she likes good beer, this New Yorker has helped me to keep up with all the happenings in the web world. The tone of voice on her blog is warming.

Why do you like to blog?

Caroline: I’ve always liked to write, and my background is in creative writing (I minored in fiction-writing in college). I’m also pretty opinionated. But I love being a journalist in the traditional sense, and so blogging affords me the opportunity to do both. My blog is a mix of very straight-up news and then some off-the-wall ridiculous stuff (BeerMenus.com anyone?)

Lost spoilers, and New York Magazine’s Daily Intelligencer blog for their brilliant Gossip Girl recaps. New York restaurant blogs.

I’m a fan of that odd little niche of branding/trend/design blogs, you know like joshspear.com, psfk.com, and notcot.com. And my friends’ Twitter feeds, which are enough to keep me occupied all day. Also, reading Gawker is so much more bizarre once you know some of the people they write about. But I’m not that much of a huge blog reader, or podcast listener — I really do prefer books.

Yes, but I don’t think it’s going away any time soon.

If you could have one domain name, what would it be?

Dude, I’d first like to just have my name. An artist in Ireland got there first. So I’d snag that, and then I’d start thinking about all the other ones I want, like pizza.com. I hear it’s worth $2 million. That could buy me a lot of candy.

How are New York and SF different in the tech scene?

Short version: SF uses WordPress and NY uses Tumblr.

Long version: San Francisco seems to have a big, sweeping “tech” culture where everyone seems to know everyone. New York’s tech scene is somewhat fragmented; there isn’t a single “tech” culture. It’s kind of like high school; you’ve got these little crowds that have their own hangouts and activities and whatnot.

There’s an extremely active videoblogger culture that’s really centered around Blip.tv and Rocketboom, and then you’ve got an extremely close-knit culture rooted in Gawker Media. I think it’s got to do with the fact that there’s so much else going on with massive industries in New York (media, fashion, finance) that it’s difficult for technology to rise to the top in the same way. It’s getting there, though.

Midwest Teen Sex Show is an educational sex podcast aimed at teens. And it’s hilarious.

The narrator, Nikol Hasler, is the most serious character in the show, but her dark sense of humor can be the best punchline sometimes.

The first time I heard of this, I was skeptical to watch, but once I got going, I found myself watching every episode. They examine touchy subjects like oral sex, homosexuality, masturbation, and “backdoor business”.

Nikol’s favorite episode is Birth Control because her three boys make a cameo.

Even though she claims to not be geeky, Nikol uses Twitter, Seesmic, Ning, YouTube, and Facebook.

She is addicted to tweeting.

I love Twitter. I used to do the whole LiveJournal and Blogger thing. And I just find now, that everything I do, I need to Twitter about it. It helps me keep track of people. ‘I’ve just woken up and I’ve got an iBooger. It needs to be talked about.’

She started to use Seesmic to do something fun with her kids. They wanted to make a podcast discussing what they thought was cool at the time. She made a bet with her oldest son that he couldn’t drink a whole cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice. If he won, he was rewarded one week off from cleaning his room.

Brutal, but awesome. Here is another gem.

Nikol has about ten computers around the house, and even an AirPort in the baby’s room so she can pipe in iTunes while he’s sleeping.

The best bartender in San Francisco is also one of the most beautiful souls to walk the planet.

Not only can she pour a Dewar’s on the rocks, but she can also write really good political commentary. She just graduated from SF State in December, and she was the opinions editor for the Xpress.

Her heart is golden. When she isn’t bartending for Norman at Eddie Rickenbacker’s, she is exploring Santa Cruz or taking care of Mr. Higgins.

I love Angela because she isn’t afraid to share her opinion with anyone. As a bartender, she has to deal with a lot of types of people, and I have never seen her treat anyone badly. She has a very bright outlook on life, and it’s so easy to admire her.

She has taught me more about politics than anyone. She makes me want to move to Europe so I can spend their currency instead of our shitty dollar.

I love spending time with Angela, and I am lucky to have met a friend like her. I hope she wants to hang out again.

About a week ago, I had no idea that magerleagues.com would be a shoutout archive again.

I was talking with the dear Jessica Hawkins, and all of a sudden, the idea dawned on me. Read the last line of this chat. Sometime after I said, “Lemme check Facebook”, I had the idea to redo this website.

(You may have noticed that I said it’s just gonna be hot girls. Well, that didn’t happen.)

I first met Jessica at band camp in the fall of 2006. She was an incoming freshman, and I was the trumpet section leader with Katie Fick. I think I Facebooked her right away, but our first wall communication wasn’t the prettiest.

I immediately fell in love with Ms. Hawkins.

I think I gave her a ride to band one time, and she left her sweatshirt in my car. In time, I earned her trust though:

Jessica was one of my favorite incoming freshman in band because she was so bossy. She wouldn’t take shit from anyone, and she knew she was awesome. I will never forget about the necklace that she wears. It’s a size-15 ring from her grandfather.

At band practice, Jessica was in rank 27 with me. I always tried to play next to her. Even at the Chick-Fil-A bowl practice:

I will always look up to her because she has a truly sweet heart, and an honest approach to life. If you get the chance to meet Jessica, don’t ever lose her friendship.

I had the pleasure of working with her on Planet Blacksburg. She covered women’s basketball for us, and did a wonderful job.

J. Noble is absolutely gorgeous too. I always tried to flirt with her, but our friendship was more important. Our “wall-to-wall” on Facebook contains 41 entries.

Jennifer is very proper, but you can get a naughty opinon out her with little effort.

If I could learn one lesson from her, it would be a simple quote she just IMed to me:

I love to be happy! Everything makes me happy!

I could hug her for days. She is my guardian angel, and my best friend.

Ever since my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, I have been scared to death about her health. As I type this, I am kinda tearing up because I am gonna lose her sooner than I should. For now, I will just enjoy her.

Not only has she survived breast cancer, but she has gotten through cervical and ovarian cancer. She has severe colitis, diabetes in the family, and just got foot surgery. She just keeps fighting through it. You would never know that she is sick if you saw her.

She is a typical Italian. Bright-eyed, stubborn, lushy, good at eating. She can also cook a mean plate of spaghetti.

My mom has always been there to listen to me. She always said, “You get your brains, and good looks from your father, but you get your heart from me”.

In the past four years, she has lived in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Washington, and now Virginia. I have only seen her about 10 times during that span, but I talk to her on the phone every day. When I finished college, she made me a scrapbook that I will cherish forever.

It kills me that she doesn’t understand the web like my dad does. She just got a 56k modem, and Flickr is blocked at her work, so it’s like impossible to share pictures with her. Hopefully she will get fiber in the new year.

My mom constantly reminds me that she went through 17 hours of labor on my birthday, but I don’t care. One day I will do 17 hours worth of housework for her.

I love my Mom, and I hope she gets to read this some day!

You can see him through me. I have his walk, I chew on my cell phone antenna the same way, and I am kinda losing my hair like him.

My father is my greatest idol. He has taught me about love, respect, and success. Even though I know he missed me, he supported me when I moved 350 miles away to attend college at VPI. He supported me when I moved across the country to live in Frisco.

He taught me how to communicate with anyone. For much of my child life, he was a salesman for Etonic or Spalding selling golf products. In the summer and on some weekends, I would travel around with him as he called on accounts. As you can imagine, head golf professionals are not the easiest people to deal with, but he owned them.

Not only did he master sales, but he proved to me that any interpersonal challenge is possible. He obliterated the annoying salesman stereotype because everyone loved him.

I have stuck with my dad through many obstacles. When it comes to life in general, I always try to empathize with him. “What would Dad do?”, I think to myself.

The greatest ember of insight that he has given me is to respect everyone. Even if you hate someone, respect them.

As I sit here on New Years eve writing this shoutout, my father is laying on the couch watchin King of Queens. He has probably seen this episode 10 times, but he is watching it anyway because I like it.

This is my first shoutout because I respect him most in life. Without him, I wouldn’t be me.
